C64 Pixel Art caught up with me
Sometimes odd emails make it into our inbox. Emails that somehow made it through the spam filters, but the sender doesn’t ring a bell. This one had the subject “64er Grafik: Hildebrandt”. I put it down to another misspelled name or the wrong recipient. (Google seems to have a major problem with similar email addresses. I end up with the spam email of a Chris Hildenbrand in the US. To say the least, it’s bad, bad spam.)
This one was no spam. The name was spelled correctly, as it’s not my name, but the name of the subject of the art: Dieter Hildebrandt.

“The prominent German comedian and satirist Dieter Hildebrandt (1927–2013). He was one of the most influential political cabaret artists in post-war Germany, known for his sharp wit, clever performances, and criticism of politicians.“
It’s a piece for an art competition of a computer magazine in 1987. I ‘drew’ him on my first computer, an old TV, and the joystick. Back then, it meant placing one ‘brick’ at a time using 16 colours and a 320 x 200 pixel resolution. Sadly, I have no recollection of the program I used. The memories of the later Amiga tool ‘Deluxe Paint’ are still very fond.

Thanks to the team at C64gfx.com for storing these old ‘gems’ and to Philip Timmermann for reaching out to me. You made my day! Now I wish my portrait of Billy Idol for the Bravo magazine would show up as well. ;)
