Essential Resources for Game Developers

2Dgameartguru Essentials

There are days when I just want to stay in bed… It’s still dark, cold, rainy and windy outside. The to-do list is getting longer and longer. On top of that, I feel like a truck just ran over me (and backed up to do the job properly). Just making my way to the kitchen feels like a struggle. When I finally made it, sat down in front of the computer, nursing a cup of coffee and looking through the email inbox – I just want to go straight back to bed…

Just when I regret getting up in the first place, there is the semi-junk section of the inbox.  Most of it is stuff that should go into the bin right away. Occasionally though, it holds some information worth a click. Today it was the little highlight I needed to make my morning. A mention of the blog on

38 Essential Resources For Game Developers

Right at the top of the section on game art is this blog. It feels nearly as good as the sugar rush caused by some homemade cookies… which I might add now just to really kickstart the day. There are still some cookies left. I had to test some cookie cutter designs. My cousin prints in 3D and one of the key products are cookie cutters with designs done in vectors. She takes the svg files and extrudes them in 3D before they become something tangible. 😉

Addictive mobile phone game

Another game project finished and out the door. ‘Seas the Day’ is a collaboration with Sherif Salama from Ankh Games. The project started with feedback on the designs. Ending up in a whole game being illustrated in the end. Resulting in a lot of fun, this addictive and colourful game is perfect to pick up and play on the go. Ideal mobile gaming delight!

It’s been a joy working on the colourful art style – showcasing how to put the tutorials in this blog to good use. The tutorial on gradients is the base for the underwater world of this game – see More fun with gradients. As usual, most of the designs are based on simple shapes and variations.  There was some touching up involved in the production though. Notably in form of bitmap effects (mainly blurring) on some of the elements. This way depth and an underwater feel were achieved.

Aches and pains

It’s been a while and I feel it’s time to post again. It’s not quite the way I would like it to be though.
I am sidelined with health issues again. I struggle to keep the aches and pains under control. It’s hard at this time of year – it’s getting colder, wetter, yuckier in my part of Germany.

I hope to be better soon and finish the tutorials I already started. Not being able to get those ideas out of my head and into nice visuals on the computer is annoying.

It will happen! I either get better soon or so annoyed with taking it easy, lying in bed, reading and watching tv shows I don’t really care about, that I will just ignore the pains and get back to it. I just need to muster enough mental strength/ anger to push past the aches. 😉

A special thanks to all of you who read my ramblings.

Thank you for taking the time and stopping by and bearing with me through the dry spells when real life and time restraints prevent me from posting. I am having way too much fun with this blog – when I have the time. I don’t intend to let real life issues stop me for too long.

As far as a giveaway goes, I haven’t prepared one for you YET. However,  I am working on it and will be coming up with some nice presents.
